As an actress, Miss Susannah Fair is used to her fair share of admirers, but she could certainly do without the lecherous attentions of Rafe Warwick, a dastardly rake who is determined to make her his mistress! Susannah has got no interest in Rafe whatsoever. Despite his manners, wealth and connections, Rafe is a cruel man who thinks of women as mere possessions and she’d sooner live in the gutter than spend a single moment depending upon his patronage. However, Rafe Warwick is not a man you could easily dismiss. Having been rebuffed on many an occasion by Susannah, Rafe is adamant that he wants her in his bed, but his plans to abduct her after a performance are rebuffed by Kit Kydd…
Kit had come to see Susannah perform at the theatre and he’d been enchanted by her voice…and by her beauty! When he had seen her being accosted by the dastardly Rafe Warwick, he had not hesitated to go to her rescue and to save her from Warwick’s unwanted attention. Susannah was relieved to be spared from Rafe’s cruel plans for seduction, but having seen another side to the gentry, Susannah cannot help but wonder what could a gentleman like Kit possibly want from a mere actress like her…
Kit is in a bit of a pickle: his great-aunt Lady Penfold has a vast fortune to leave to one of her nephews and Kit is determined to be the one to benefit from her legacy. However, Kit knows that the only way Lady Penfold will consent to leaving her fortune to him is if she sees him settled and betrothed to a beautiful woman – and that’s where Susannah comes in! Kit wants Susannah to pretend to be his fiancée so that he can fool Lady Penfold into thinking that she’s soon to be his wife. With Rafe Warwick just waiting to wreak revenge upon her, Susannah knows that she needs Kit’s protection, unaware that her life is about to be changed forever…
Susannah soon finds herself falling in love with Kit. But how can a gentleman like him possibly consent to marrying a nobody like her? Does their love stand a chance of surviving in a condemning society like theirs? Will Rafe Warwick’s thirst for revenge ruin everything? Or will Kit and Susannah manage to triumph over adversity?

Diana Pellino comes from an overprotective family, a family of cops, with a few fire fighters thrown in. As a cop herself, she has risen through the ranks until she is now a homicide detective. Her latest case is beginning to look like the work of a serial killer. Now though, the murderer has added arson, burning his victims. Having to work with Luke Fontella, the fire marshal, puts stress not only on her case but also with her family when the case seems to lead in directions that may threaten her family. Working with the overbearing, arrogant but very desirable Luke, racing to solve the case before another murder and dealing with the family issues, leaves Diana with more than enough problems. Add to this that the facts point to someone close not being trustworthy, and Diana is left with little choice but to trust Luke who may be the only one who can help her solve the case.
Capable, competent, and beautiful, Diana is a fantastic heroine. She has no problem standing up for herself, something she has had to do to thrive in the world of predominantly male cops. Her ability to counter male sexist attitudes and behaviors make for some exciting scenes that will have women smiling. In spite of his arrogance and over bearing attitude, Luke turned out to be her perfect match.
Cop’s Daughter 4: Diana is Laura Marie Henion’s best one yet. Non-stop action, thought provoking scenes and an excellent knowledge of cops and their families makes Cop’s Daughter 4: Diana a compelling read. The plot is excellent and keeps you guessing until the very end. An excellent addition to her Cop’s Daughter series, be sure and pick this one up and while you are at it, check out the others in this series if you have not read them as yet. You will not be disappointed.
Dr. Lisa Maxwell, Archeologist, in on the hunt for the Three Furies statues from Ancient Greece, that washed up ashore in the Caribbean over a hundred years ago and then according to evidence were then found by three adolescent girls. She has obsessed over finding the furies because of a part of her past. After she finds one of them in Jamaica, she sets in motion a series of events.
Unknown to Lisa, Rafael “Rafe” Sullivan is also looking for the Furies for reasons of his own. Though he lies to her and steals from her when they first meet, the sparks between them practically jump off the page.
But others are also on the trail of the Furies and murder is nothing to these parties.
In Ms. Naughton’s debut, she really brings you into the story, so that even though you know on one level there will be a positive ending, you forget about that and nibble on your nails and read as fast as you can, hoping that they will survive and over come the obstacles in front of them. All of the characters are very real as well. You really feel for them. They aren’t caricatures, so you may know people like them.
I find that a lot of the time these days, when a story involves archeology and adventure, people compare them to Indiana Jones and while I can see the possibility for that here, I really feel, that Stolen Fury is it’s own story.
So why not start off 2009 with a great new author and a great adventure.
Enjoy
