Review: Mind Games by Olivia Starke

Sheriff Garrett Daniels is on his way to investigate the murder of a young woman when he runs into Cassie Archer standing by her broken down truck.  Cassie is new to town after inheriting her grandmother’s place.  Garrett is caught off guard when he realizes Cassie has  several things in common with the murder victim.

Olivia Starke casts a tale of romance, ghosts, spells, and a mystery as well in Mind Games.  A quick paced short story that peaks the reader’s interest from the first page.  Cassie Archer is a head strong woman whose sarcastic side will bring a smile to your lips. I thought Mind Games was an enjoyable story that kept my interest throughout.

Review: The Spell by Regan Taylor

I really enjoyed this very good suspense with paranormal reincarnation dreams!

Kelly McKenna is a world traveling investigative reporter. She is not afraid to present hard hitting stories of victims of scams and corruption. Now the story may be about her as a victim as she is pursued by an unknown and escalating stalker. First there were just nasty notes and dead flowers but now her car has been blown up!

To add to her confusion, Kelly has met the blond, green eyed “man of her dreams” – literally! Ryan Michael is a detective and he is bound and determined to protect this beautiful lady who claims to know him! He wants to stick to her like glue but that may be a bit difficult as she is involved with another man, Adrian.

Then there is Kelly’s ex husband who can’t seem to let her go even though he ended the marriage. Each of these men are dear to her and yet they are pointing fingers at each other. Who can she trust? And why does she dream of these men by different names and in different historical settings? Could she have known one or more of them in a prior life?

The characters are well developed and this book is fast paced. Several suspects will keep you wondering who the stalker is and how everyone is related in Kelly’s past lives! Will true love break a long time curse or will Kelly be doomed to again lose the man she truly loves? If you like suspense with paranormal, and a love that spans over time you will enjoy this book! I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Review: Angelic Avenger by Kaye Chambers

Arabella “ Bella” Morrison is working to restore her cosmic balance in the afterlife after taking an innocent life. Her own. Now Bella works with the Angels and keeps the shifters and others who aren’t quite human from causing trouble.

Along this road Bella meets a half-breed angel, Gray Devereau. While Bella wouldn’t mind a short term affair with Gray, he wants a lifetime with her. Throw in an angel gone rogue trying to kill a little girl and a shifter rebellion on the rise to complicate Bella’s life.

In the beginning I was hooked by Bella’s sharp wit and cynicism, yet she obviously has a big heart that when hurt is devastating. The problem with this story is that while she was a compelling character, the story was not. It had to many plots and side “things” that did not come together and Gray was a jealous brat. I am soooo turned off by a man who is always jealous.

Also, I am in no way, shape or form a grammar freak but the grammar and word phrasing problems here kept pulling me out of the story.

Despite the faults I find in Angelic Avenger, the first third of the book was so good that I am looking forward to seeing more work by Kaye Chambers.

Review: Ghost of A Chance by Belinda MacDonald

Harry Troutman comes back to town with the intent of kicking out the gold-digger he believes has taken over his late uncle’s house.  Harry ends up coming across a small young woman, who passes out in front of him ridden with fever, named Ruth-Ann.  The house is in complete disarray, Ruth-Ann has been working endlessly to get it ready to be viewed by the historical society in order to keep from losing it to debtors.  Unfortunately this has taken a toll on Ruth-Ann and with Harry arriving just in time he is put to task to take over and help save the house.

Ruth-Ann Ryan has led a troubled life since the death of her sister several years ago and  looked at inheriting the house as a fresh start to put the past to rest.  Her sister Nicole, even though dead, still stays by her side through thick and thin.  Nicole  is usually only seen by her sister, but when Harry arrives he is finding it difficult to believe she is a ghost.

Ghost of a Chance is a delightfully fun story  with Ruth-Ann and Harry both vulnerable characters who have to leave  their fears aside in order to find their way into each others’ heart.  A brilliant blend of suspense,  romance, and a paranormal twist; Denise Belinda MacDonald has written another terrific story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Review: Summer’s Song by Allie Boniface

Summer Thompson returns to Pine Point after the death of her father.  Summer had not stepped foot in Pine Point since being sent away by her father ten years ago after a family tragedy ripped them apart.  The disaster caused Summer to lose her memory of the event but now recollections are beginning to resurface as she stays on to sell the house she inherited.

Damian Knight, one of the carpenters working on the house, has troubles of his own.  He meets Summer when she comes to see how much work needs to be done on the house to get it ready to sell.  Damian and his family live on the property in a barn that Summer now owns.  Sparks ignite when Summer announces she is selling the property and although she will try, his family will most likely have to move.

Summer and Damian continue to try to fight the attraction between them, easily misunderstanding each other and jumping to conclusions.  Summer begins to  remember about her past, and is frightened with where it may lead.  Damian who has been protecting his family for so long, finds he is torn between wanting to spend time with summer and his duties to his family.

Allie Boniface’s Summer Song is an engrossing story about hidden pasts, lost memories, and finding love despite everything else.  Summer  is a complex character who you will grow to care  about; her vulnerability is beautifully described throughout the story.  Damian, the protector, is compelling as you read his internal struggle with his attraction to Summer, which is too strong to resist, and his continued care for his own family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, a wonderful  read when you want to curl up on the couch and relax.
