Review: Stolen Fury by Elizabeth Naughton

Dr. Lisa Maxwell, Archeologist, in on the hunt for the Three Furies statues from Ancient Greece, that washed up ashore in the Caribbean over a hundred years ago and then according to evidence were then found by three adolescent girls. She has obsessed over finding the furies because of a part of her past. After she finds one of them in Jamaica, she sets in motion a series of events.

Unknown to Lisa, Rafael “Rafe” Sullivan is also looking for the Furies for reasons of his own. Though he lies to her and steals from her when they first meet, the sparks between them practically jump off the page.

But others are also on the trail of the Furies and murder is nothing to these parties.

In Ms. Naughton’s debut, she really brings you into the story, so that even though you know on one level there will be a positive ending, you forget about that and nibble on your nails and read as fast as you can, hoping that they will survive and over come the obstacles in front of them. All of the characters are very real as well. You really feel for them. They aren’t caricatures, so you may know people like them.

I find that a lot of the time these days, when a story involves archeology and adventure, people compare them to Indiana Jones and while I can see the possibility for that here, I really feel, that Stolen Fury is it’s own story.

So why not start off 2009 with a great new author and a great adventure.

Enjoy

Review: Between Light and Dark by Elissa Wilds

In a meeting of the Divine Council of the Light Realm, Mobius, the leader of the council, recommends sending Axiom, a Balancer grey god, to the earthly plane to mate with the appointed woman to create the child who will be born a Balancer in the flesh. Axiom accepts his mission, and leaves to locate the future mother of his child.

On earth Laurell Pittman is concluding all of the business of settling her mother’s and grandmother’s estates following the sudden death of both of them within days of each other, leaving Laurell suddenly without any family, but with tons of money that she has no interest in having, and refuses to accept. Planning not to return for an extended period of time to the estate where her mother had tragically died, Laurell wanders by the graves of her family members, her mind full of happy and sad memories as she says goodbye to her beloved grandmother, and to her mother, even though their relationship had always been very tenuous. Laurell’s mother would have hated Laurell’s current size 12 figure and her new pixie haircut because she had disliked everything about Laurell while she was alive.

Laurell, preparing to leave the estate’s graveyard area, hears her name called off in the distance. Walking towards her car, Laurell hears her name again, and turns to look at the sexiest and most handsome man that she had ever laid eyes on before today. Laurell immediately wants to take her clothes off, and be intimate right then and there with this stranger. What is wrong with her, and why does she feel this way?

Laurell runs to Axiom who takes hold of her arms as Laurell reaches him. Axiom kisses her, passion explodes between them, and Laurell actually faints from the intensity of her sexual desire and her emotions.

Between Light and Dark is a beautiful love story filled with adventure as Axiom carries Laurell away to a safe house to protect her from the dark powers that will destroy her to stop the birth of their child. Axiom, even in human flesh, still has powers; Laurell has powers, but needs to be taught how to use her gifts. Taking refuge in a Wicca coven in the mountains Laurell begins to learn how to use her powers, as a deep genuine love develops between Laurell and Axiom while their passionate encounters will hopefully result in the conception of the Earth’s Balancer.

This story, written by Elissa Wilds, is a true work of art. It is extremely rare to find a book with the depth of folk lore and adventure that this story has through out it‘s entirety. It is so sexy and hot your hair can curl, and you will be searching for either a cold shower or your significant other while reading.

I adore this book. I give Between Light and Dark the highest recommendation that I can possibly give to a story. Be prepared to become addicted to it, and plan on loss of sleep because I could not stop reading until I finished the story, then I immediately started re-reading it all over again. Plan ahead, order take out as we did (Chinese) so that you can enjoy this exciting story without interruptions…! Bon Appetit!

Review: KNIGHT’S FORK by Rowena Cherry

Electra-Djerroldina, Queen of Volnoth, must produce an heir for her husband’s people but the King and Queen are unable to mate successfully. Thus, Electra is looking for a sperm donor and chooses Rhett, a Great Djinn and formally titled Prince Djarrhett, a self imposed celibate and enemy of Volnoth. She doesn’t want to cuckold her husband, just use Rhett’s sperm. However, Electra is becoming infatuated with Rhett.

Electra’s brother, Tarrant-Arragon, takes advantage of the perceived attraction by making sure Rhett and Electra are compromised by traveling to earth together and marooning them there. This would force Electra’s husband to retaliate against the Saurian Prince and ally with Tarrant-Arragon.

Steeped in political maneuvering and intrigue, KNIGHT’S FORK engages the reader with mind games and humor. Sexual tension runs rampant as Rhett and Electra tease and tantalize each other until the reader is in a lather. Award winning author Rowena Cherry has crafted an alien world populated with gods that live life like a game of chess. KNIGHT’S FORK is the third book in this series and may be read as a stand alone book, but do not deprive yourself; find FORCED MATE and INSUFFICIENT MATING MATERIAL to add to your reading pleasure.

Kalen was taken in by her uncle and aunt when her family was massacred by Indians. Review: THE PRIVATEER by Dawn MacTavish

Never in her darkest nightmare did Lady Lark Eddington expect to be thrown into Marshalsea, London’s debtor’s prison, amongst the squallier and dregs of society. But that is exactly what happened after her father ruined himself with debt then hanged himself, leaving Lark to sell all their possessions and still owe five hundred pounds. It might as well have been five thousand because there is no help from the ton which welcomed her with open arms not too long ago but now enjoy her as fodder for gossip. Lark is strong willed and determined to pay her father’s debt despite her current living conditions. During her stay in debtor’s prison, she instantly makes a friend, Agnes Garwood, a former milliner and an enemy, Andrew Westerfield, the degenerate second son of the Earl of Stepton. Lark doesn’t have a long interment, however, because she caught the eye of the earl of Grayshire who had come to Marshalsea to find a companion for his mother.

Lord Grayshire, King, knew it was time to marry and have an heir. He was courting a young lady, the perfect wife material, and making plans for his mother to move to the dowager house when he was approached by the English Admiralty to become a privateer; looting French ships, a trade his father was once embroiled in, and he could not refuse. Just when King thought he had everything in place, he became enraptured with Lark, the woman he chose for his mother’s companion. Many complications and dangers loom in the way of the love developing between Lark and King but their coming together may not lead to a happily ever after.

Adventure on the high seas, family drama, rescue from a fate worse than death, passionate love; what more can a romance reader ask for? Dawn MacTavish draws us right in and paints her absorbing story with authentic historical detail in THE PRIVATEER. Her heroes, Lark and King, are strong interesting characters and I truly enjoyed the meddling and transformation of the secondary character Countess Grayshire. The settings, from the nasty prison to the secret romantic roman bath are so realistically portrayed that I felt I had stepped into the story. Through her intriguing book; Ms. MacTavish allows the reader to escape to another time and place, so mesmerizing is the tale. Snuggle down with a “cuppa” tea and your copy of THE PRIVATEER by Dawn MacTavish and enjoy!
