Review: KISSES LIKE A DEVIL by Diane Whiteside

"Diane Whiteside creates a perilous journey of international intrigue and passionate love for her characters in KISSES LIKE A DEVIL, the latest of her Devil books."

It is 1896 in the Grand Duchy of Eisengau and Meredith Duncan is trying to delay an arranged marriage by pleading with her mother and step-father to allow her to attend Eisengau University. This would give her four more years of freedom to secretly help the foundry workers. Her parents agree only if she works for Zorndorf, the manager of the Grand Duke’s cannon foundry, while looking for an appropriate man to marry. Many military men pass through Eisengau because of the world wide reputation of the cannons produced there.

Meanwhile in America, Teddy Roosevelt entreats his former soldier-at-arms, Brian Donovan, to investigate the rumors surrounding a new weapon that may be a threat. Brian is independently wealthy and makes his way to Eisengau posing as a weapons buyer for America. Meredith and Brian cross paths and become lovers but fate is against them. Meredith’s parents pledge her to marry the loathsome Zorndorf, the Russians are pressuring Meredith to steal the plans for the cannon, the foundry workers are being treated unfairly and are on the verge of revolt and Brian must find a way to keep the cannon out of the hands of perceived enemies.

Diane Whiteside’s fast moving story sweeps the reader up for a thrilling ride of international intrigue and passionate romance. Her characters are brave, free thinkers with a dangerous destiny to conquer. Scintillating dialogue, quick-paced plot and stimulating characters make KISSES LIKE A DEVIL a truly captivating entertaining read.
