Just Wicked Enough by Lorraine Heath
For the second story of her outstanding Rogues and Roses series, Lorraine Heath pens a romance filled with potent emotions by her earnestly portrayed hero and heroine. With numerous surprising revelations, each turn of the page is highly anticipated.
On a fateful day in his London home, Michael Tremayne, the fourth Marquess of Falconridge, appears to still be a wealthy man. However, with his debts mounting and no way to pay off their soon due balances, Michael has devised what he hopes is a foolproof way of not becoming impoverished. With the knowledge of how much American heiresses love receiving an English title when they marry, he plans to auction off his own title to one of the five extremely prosperous fathers who are now waiting for him to make an appearance. In exchange for marrying their daughter which will make them a titled lady, Michael wants to obtain enough funds to not only get out of debt but also give him the means to help improve other areas of his life. Though he does receive a generous sum during the bidding, the daughter being offered is one whom he knows is not right for him. When they last spoke, Kate Rose talked of love not passion in a relationship, and this is one emotion Michael knows he will never feel.
When the wedding is agreed upon and takes place, Michael longs to be intimate with his lovely wife. Unfortunately for him, Kate has no desire to be with a man unless there is love between them. What starts out as a battle of wills slowly turns into a game of seduction by Michael, where he is determined to reach his intended goal. Yet both he and Kate are keeping inner secrets from the other, ones which could affect their relationship if ever discovered. As the seduction phase of their marriage heats up, they find other emotions becoming involved as well.
If Lorraine Heath creates a storyline, then it will be enthralling from the first to last word. This talented author knows exactly how to set the scene between her characters to make every instant convincing, from heartfelt dialogue to genuine reactions. In JUST WICKED ENOUGH, the realistic personalities of Michael and Kate make the story totally believable from their sincere feelings. Whether they are divulging a well-kept secret or just trying to figure out how the other thinks, each of their responses touched me deeply. The connection I developed with this couple was immediate, and it only grew as new facts were disclosed about them. There were times I almost could not believe what I was reading, as the plot Ms. Heath developed was so skillfully clever. The story also positively sizzles at times from the heat generated by this couple, plus their moments together are overflowing with strongly felt emotions. With the graphically visual settings, one gets to experience life in London during the 1880’s in vivid detail from the colorful depictions. The featured past characters are once again appealing and give the story much added dynamic spirit. JUST WICKED ENOUGH is an unforgettable love story which is stunning in its emotional impact and endearing characters.
