Review – Desire Unchained: A Demonica Novel by Larissa Ione
The world created for the Demonica series is totally unique, and Larissa Ione continuously adds new fascinating layers with each inventive development. From innovative scenarios to sky-high passions to dangerous encounters, DESIRE UNCHAINED is emotively riveting at every turn.
His work as a paramedic at Underworld General Hospital with his brothers is satisfying for Shade. The skills he possesses as a Seminus demon often help others on a professional level, and his sensuously sexual temperament causes him to never lack for female companionship when it comes to his personal life. Shade does have a worry which haunts him daily, as he was cursed many years ago to never let himself admit to finding true love or he will suffer for eternity. There was only one woman who ever made him think of starting a lasting relationship with anyone, and he made certain to not look up the human woman again when an incident turned her against him.
Although Runa Wagner has not seen Shade in nearly a year, she has never forgotten the man and the way he fulfilled her fantasies. She has also not stopped thinking about what happened to her shortly after she last saw him, as the unfortunate episode totally changed her future. When Runa decides to confront Shade about what previously took place, they both end up held captive in a dungeon by a ruthless enemy, one single-minded when it comes to wanting retribution for a past transgression. Though they both felt drawn to each other before, the connection between them is more powerful this time. When they come to realize their mysterious kidnapper has secretly influenced them to become bonded for life, Shade and Runa fear their future together may be extremely short.
Emotional intensity is the driving force behind every Larissa Ione book. Scenes may be packed with suspenseful peril or steamy passions or even quick humor and clever banter, yet it is the emotions behind the reactions of the characters which really grab the reader. There are a myriad of potent feelings displayed all throughout DESIRE UNCHAINED, and each one is shown with believable realism. Whether the scene contains terrifying physical threats or uncontrollable desires, the characters respond plausibly in both thought and deed. The depth of sentiments depicted by the many characters in this story will cause the reader to be profoundly affected, often on numerous levels at once. Shade and Runa are an exceptionally atypical couple, and their relationship definitely does not follow the norm. Readers will be caught up in their lives as they discover not only more about the other but also additional sides of themselves. These two always want to appear in control of what is happening in their lives, but the reader is frequently given glimpses into their vulnerable natures, making them endearingly appealing. The characteristic behavior they each possess makes their own species come alive, and the ingenious way each is portrayed had me wanting this couple to miraculously find happiness together. When it comes to the sensuous aspects of this story, Ms. Ione makes every instant rousing yet also filled with sincerity. When Shade and Runa give in to the basic traits specific to their kind, the scene is overflowing with fiery lust yet still brimming with plenty of unselfish caring. There are countless secondary characters whose lives are intriguingly described, and my interest is piqued to discover the circumstances surrounding them in the next book. DESIRE UNCHAINED is imaginatively riveting with its noteworthy and creative supernatural premise plus memorable characters.
