Review: The After Wife by Lexi Davis
The interesting concept behind this intriguing novel by Lexi Davis shows a love triangle in a most unusual manner, yet faith in each other still plays a crucial role in their relationships. Ms.. Davis takes this common romantic entanglement and gives it a paranormal twist to create an engaging story packed with emotions, danger and passions.
Every time Nia Youngblood is with a prospective sexual partner, some uncanny incident occurs and causes them to not fulfill their desired plans. Nia is almost twenty-five years old and still a virgin, yet she longs for a normal relationship with a man. There have been numerous fantasies experienced in her dreams with an unknown lover, and she often feels surrounded when awake by someone who is closely watching her interaction with men. Although her past home life was not a happy one, especially when it concerns the witch who gave birth to her, Nia has hopes of finally having a normal life with an ordinary man in the future.
What she does not know is her destiny was set for her before she was even born, and a demonic being with evil plans vows to make certain Nia carries out her side of the bargain, of which she is unaware. When she and a defense attorney meet at the courthouse, she wonders if this charming male could be the right man for her. David Wrightwood also feels a connection to her from the start and they begin dating. Though they get along well with each other, their times spent together are repeatedly filled with eerily peculiar events. When it seems something is determined to keep David and Nia apart, he is equally unwavering in making certain they will stay together regardless of what they must face.
Original characters and sharp-witted conversations make this story by Lexi Davis captivatingly enjoyable. With its creative paranormal premise, readers never know what will occur next and situations with unexpectedly surprises often arise. There are several darkly dramatic incidents and then there are some more light-hearted moments, but each one will draw you more into the lives of the main characters by showing their reactions in a true to life way. David and Nia both have some unspoken heartaches in their pasts, and these emotional issues frequently dictate how they respond to situations in the present. With their dissimilar backgrounds, these two have much to overcome before they can ever have a lasting relationship. Their inner beliefs are tested time and again, and whether it concerns their religious views or only how much trust they feel for the other, the depiction of each set of circumstances seems genuinely realistic as their pasts make them vulnerable and cause doubts. The malevolent presence in the story is a powerful being, and he will cause David and Nia to do much soul-searching before they can ever be actually happy with their lives.. Watching this couple make these decisive choices will leave readers riveted to each enthralling scene. Lexi Davis weaves a magical story by entwining the ordinary with the extraordinary in THE AFTER LIFE, where the power of love is deftly proven.
