Review: A Spring Affair by Milly Johnson

"Funny, heartwarming and blissfully romantic, A Spring Affair is the fabulous new novel from the wonderful Milly Johnson!"

Lou Casserley had been feisty, sassy and full of fun, but her marriage to womanizing used car salesman Phil Winter soon changed all that. His constant cheating and acerbic put downs about her weight succeeded in turning fun-loving Lou into a frumpy, insecure and downtrodden woman who is treated no better than a servant by a husband whose roving eye is always on the lookout for something – or rather someone – younger, glamorous and thinner. Lou hasn’t been this unhappy in years and she is determined to turn things around and reclaim some of her old spirit.

When she spots an article about clutter-clearing in an old magazine at the dentist’s, Lou realizes that this is the perfect opportunity for her to get rid of some of the junk that’s been collecting dust in her house. Hiring a skip from the sexy Tom Broom, Lou soon begins to get rid of some of the things which she doesn’t need anymore – it’s just a shame that she cannot throw her husband out and replace him with the kind, charismatic and devastatingly attractive Tom!

Tom Broom was drawn to Lou from the very first moment he clapped eyes on her. With her infectious laugh, sparkling green eyes and wonderful sense of humour, Tom is sure that Lou is the woman he’s been looking for for most of his life. However, just when he’s plucked up the courage to ask Lou out for a drink, Tom is disappointed when he realizes that the woman he cannot get out of his mind is in fact married to another man!

Tom and Lou soon become great friends and although Lou knows that Tom can never be anything more to her than a good mate, she cannot help but wish that things could be different for the two of them. But Lou cannot betray her wedding vows – even though she cannot stop thinking about the sexy skip man whose gorgeous face is haunting her every waking thought!

As Lou continues to get rid of more and more clutter, she begins to wonder about the places deep within her heart which need nourishing and begins to question whether there should be more to life than being a married to a man who doesn’t…

Will Lou have the guts to forge her own path and be the mistress of her own destiny? Or will her fears and insecurities hold her back from being the fun-loving Lou she knows she can be?

A Spring Affair is a brilliant story about a woman taking charge of her own life that sparkles with humour, honesty and emotion. Milly Johnson is a terrific writer who writes wonderfully funny and highly absorbing books about real people whom we can all relate to. Women everywhere will warm and sympathize with Lou, fall in love with the gorgeous Tom (and his dog!) and boo and hiss at Phil Winter.

Fresh, hilarious and captivating from start to finish, Milly Johnson’s third novel cements her position as one of the hottest up and coming stars of romantic comedy!
