Review: A Knight’s Captive by Lindsay Townsend
On his way to a pilgrimage to St Cuthbert in the north of England, battle weary knight Marc De Sens’s eyes cannot help but be drawn to the beautiful woman who is accompanying her insolent father and her loutish brothers. Having just been assigned guardianship to his three nieces, Marc’s main concern is in ensuring the well-being of his new charges, certainly not on romance. But he finds himself unable to forget the beautiful woman whom he’s encountered on his travels. Yet, a liaison for the two of them is out of the question because Sunniva of Wereford is betrothed to another…
Sunniva is equally aware of Marc’s attraction towards her, and even though she reciprocates his feelings for her, she cannot help but remember her previous experiences with men which have left her heartbroken and frightened. However, Marc is not like any other men: he’s gentle and kind to his charges – and he is also absolutely impossible to resist. Sunniva knows that she should not be having such thoughts about Marc. Yet, resistance is futile when she realizes that she has finally found the man she would love to spend the rest of her life with…
But things change for Sunniva when her brothers and father are killed and she is left all alone in the world. With nobody to turn to, Sunniva thinks that she is going to have to rely on herself. But her troubles are far from over because Marc has just appointed himself as her protector and he’s got a dark secret that could change their lives… forever!
As engrossing as anything Roberta Gellis has ever written, A Knight’s Captive is a superb historical romance that plunges the reader into a world of danger, intrigue and romance. Wonderfully written, highly absorbing and immensely evocative, A Knight’s Captive is a spectacular read by a writer who has a bright future ahead of her!
