Review: Sapphire Dream by Pamela Montgomerie

"SAPPHIRE DREAM is brimming with adventurous escapades and unpredictable turns, while the magical aspects make this romantic tale even more enchanting."

This time travel story starts off with an exceedingly intriguing scenario, where numerous riveting situations continuously arise throughout the book, and then concludes with the thrilling promise of more enthralling stories to come. Pamela Montgomerie has written previous releases under another name, and her gifted storytelling abilities to write any genre are proven on every page of this superbly created novel.

Although Brenna Cameron is pretending to be just an ordinary tourist when she visits Castle Stour, she is actually hoping to discover any facts about her Scottish background and clear up some persistent questions which haunt her. When her first plan for answers is not successful, she goes to bed knowing she will not give up easily. However, when she awakens, Brenna is shocked to find herself on a ship confronted by some rough looking men. Luckily, the commanding captain of what appears to be a pirate ship intervenes and keeps her safe from those who wish her harm.

When Rourke Douglas realizes the prophesy he has been dreading is coming true, he wants Brenna off his ship as quickly as possible. As a boy, his life was turned upside down by a devastating event and he fears her appearance may bring only trouble into his life once again. Though he is overwhelmingly drawn to the spiritedly courageous woman, Rourke believes if he becomes involved with her and what she is fated to do, then perilous trouble will also be his destiny. As Brenna comes to comprehend that she is truly in the seventeenth-century because of the sapphire she has worn on a necklace for most of her life, she at first only thinks about going back home. When frightening events do start to happen in their lives, Rourke and Brenna find their emotions warring with their minds over how to respond to these dilemmas.

Pure reading magic perfectly describes SAPPHIRE DREAM by Pamela Montgomerie. While the supernatural factor at the center of the story and its consequences will draw you into every fascinating moment, the actions of the hero and heroine which will grab your attention just as much. From their honest responses concerning a set of circumstances to their heartfelt conversations and even some unspoken thoughts, Rourke and Brenna are an exceptional couple possessing such energetic natures. There are countless times when I found myself cheering them on during a dangerous incident filled with their quick-thinking deeds, plus there are several lighter instances when their lively personalities brilliantly shown through and had me smiling. Sadly, they also suffered some hidden emotional turmoil, and even though they frequently covered up their true feeling with sharp words, their deep inner suffering was still painfully evident. Ms. Montgomerie writes their every scene with an intensity which lets the real motives driving them eventually become apparent either with words or by a reaction, making Rourke and Brenna appeal to me on many levels. The intimacy between these two is so earnestly sincere, and I could actually sense their potent desire for one another from the visual portrayal. There are some suspenseful scenes, where risks are taken and the danger is sky high, and these uncertain predicaments will repeatedly leave you breathless. The whole book contains exceedingly vivid details when depicting any setting and this fills each scene with realism. This romantic adventure is movingly emotional, and the many unforeseen situations will make you gasp plus profoundly affect you. Innovative from beginning to end, SAPPHIRE DREAM is an ingeniously plotted time travel story and will not soon be forgotten.
