Review: CAN’T STAND THE HEAT by Louisa Edwards
Food critic Miranda Wake was having an extremely bad day. She had just received her latest rejection notice from a book publisher when her younger brother showed up on her doorstep stating he was dropping out of college and giving up his scholarship. Now, she is sipping rose-infused, vodka, raspberry cocktails at the opening of another new restaurant waiting for another arrogant chef, Adam Temple, to display his creative food genius to waiting critics and fans. During his welcoming speech, Miranda could take it no longer, or maybe it was the alcohol, and began heckling Adam. When Adam discovers the stunning inebriated redhead is none other than the snide food critic, Miranda Wake; he dares her to spend a day in his kitchen to experience the real thing. Big mistake, Miranda sees a way to get material for her book and jumps at the challenge; in fact, by the time the dust settles, she is set to spend a month in Adam’s kitchen.
Miranda and Adam soon find out the heat is not just in the kitchen as he begins to teach her how to cook and recognizes her as part of the kitchen family. The closer they become and the more Miranda witnesses the camaraderie and loyalty of Adam’s staff, the more confused Miranda becomes over writing her book, especially since her publisher wants a gossipy, tell-all, pulp fiction instead of the serious book Miranda had planned. But family means everything to Miranda and the money the book will bring will pay for her brother’s tuition and that’s all that matters, right?
Delish! Creative debut author Louisa Edwards will have you eating out of her hand as you read her witty, insightful, foodie romance. Hard lessons are learned by Ms. Edwards’ heroine, Miranda, and not just about cooking. As for her hero, Adam is one piece of eye candy that we all would like to sample and he is as down-to-earth as he is gorgeous. A gastronomical reading delight, CAN’T STAND THE HEAT is filled with steamy passion, realistically described settings, a distinctive plot and characters that beg for their own stories. Watch for more to come from this talented new author!
