Review: Seduce Me In Shadow by Shayla Black
The world of the Doomsday Brethren series becomes even more challenging as merciless plans are put into motion and unanticipated dilemmas continue to arise. With its cleverly executed premise by Shayla Black where secrets, guilt, and desire frequently entwine, SEDUCE ME IN SHADOW captures your complete interest during every enthralling scene.
After leaving England twelve years before, Caden MacTavish wanted to forsake his legacy and leave all things magical in the past. When his older brother starts suffering with an affliction resulting after his mate went missing, he feels compelled to return. His sibling belongs to the Doomsday Brethren, a group of wizards who are fighting one powerful wizard determined to use his power for evil intentions, but Caden only wants to aid his brother and have nothing to do with the group or anything supernatural. However, it seems a solution to the predicament affecting his brother may be tied to a paranormal tabloid reporter, Sydney Blair, whose stories about magickind are way closer to fact than fiction, and he begins working at the same publication to hopefully get some much needed answers.
When Sydney receives the missing Doomsday Diary as a gift, Caden is stunned and knows he must get the book from her while also trying to persuade the determined reporter to stop publishing so many true facts about the battle brewing between the two wizard factions. Although Sydney does not know for certain how much accuracy there is behind what she was told by her unnamed source, she would like to believe there are in reality such individuals living in our world. Caden knows if the enemy of the Doomsday Brethren learns what the feisty reporter may print plus has in her possession, he knows she will be in much danger. As an ex-Marine, he never wants to end a mission without being successful and this causes his goals and those of Sydney to constantly clash. Caden also surprising discovers how much his heart wants this strong-willed woman in his life, yet with so many factors working against them, what seems to be fated may never be if the right choices are not made.
Innovative storylines and a marvelous cast of characters make paranormal romances by Shayla Black exceptionally noteworthy. When you enter the original world created by this gifted author, you will be held mesmerized all through the story as what should be unbelievable seems totally convincing and has you wondering about its many possibilities. The supernatural elements in SEDUCE ME IN SHADOW are often exclusive to this story, and their originality ups the fascination as each one is revealed. This story may have its basis on the good vs. evil plot, but Ms. Black adds plenty of imaginative scenarios to keep everything freshly novel. There are ample characters to make each scene engaging, and whether they are on the side of good or evil, their personalities come through and let their inner temperaments become known. Some of the private thoughts of the characters, especially Caden and Sydney, are priceless, as their actions and spoken words war with what they actually feel. There is also some sharply delivered banter between a number of individuals, and some of this quick wit will leave you grinning from time to time. The sexual tension between Caden and Sydney is repeatedly off the scale, and when their control finally slips, the scene is sensuously explosive. Theirs is definitely a complex love story, and the countless struggles are expertly handled by Ms. Black. With so many potential heroes in this series, I hope each one gets the opportunity to tell their remarkable stories. With fascinating circumstances, appealing characters and a delightful brand of humor, SEDUCE ME IN SHADOW is a rewarding paranormal romantic adventure.
