The Christmas Clock by Kat Martin
This is an absolutely charming and sweet story of love lost and found! Eight year old Teddy wants to buy a Victorian clock for his Gramma. Unfortunately his lovely Gramma, who is raising him, is moving toward advanced Alzheimers! Teddy has to earn money so he is thrilled to get to work at a local garage partially owned by Joe Dixon.
Joe is a very nice man who has always wanted children. He had been in love with Sylvia during college. A week before their marriage Syl left town saying she really didn’t love Joe and wanted to get away from the small town to go to the city. Joe was completely devastated and while loosing himself in drink ended up with a terrible accident that landed him in jail.
Syl had a serious reason for leaving but eight years later, as she returns home, she isn’t sure if she made the right decision. She knows she will run into Joe sooner or later and she knows he must hate her. She has been brave enough to come home and start a new life but will she be brave enough to face Joe?
When Joe and Syl meet again they realize that they are still drawn to each other! Can Joe forgive Syl when he learns her true reasons for leaving him? Meanwhile Joe applies to be the foster parent for Teddy but his past conviction is an obstacle. What will happen to Teddy?
There is such real pain and lovely emotion portrayed in this short story. The characters are beautiful people in heart beauty if not physical beauty. The story is compelling and the writing easy and quick to read. If you want a very quick, sweet, heart-touching story that might bring tears to your eyes this is a perfect choice!
