Review: Root of All Evil by Mary Eason
Anna’s husband Aaron was murdered a year ago, leaving a wake of secrets in his path. Anna has moved onto a new city and is trying to pick up the pieces of her life. A disturbing call from her sister Bev who has had a premonition, has Anna grappling with fear once again and is bringing back old memories that still haunt her.
FBI Detective John Delaney newest case involves another body left by a killer whose profile is similar to a man who sitting on death row. John lost his partner Aaron who was Anna’s husband to this killer, with the same patterns displayed in both killings John is going to have reopen the case, despite the pain it will cause to him and Anna.
Anna feels she is being watched, she is able to confirm the suspicions when a note is found in her mailbox. Bev feels it is time to get John Delaney involved despite Anna’s persistent objections. John arrives but the tension between Anna and John slices through the air like a thick knife. Feelings that have long been suppressed begin to erupt within Anna causing her to have to feel again, and work through her grief. John wants to be there for her not just as protection, Anna must find it in her heart to forgive and move on in order for this to succeed.
Root of All Evil is a spine tingling thriller that will leave the reader on the edge of their seat. The emotions run rampant throughout the story switching back and forth through Anna and John. Mary Eason successfully brings the reader into the story, captivating them from page to page. I found it difficult to tear myself away as the cat and mouse between killer and victim began. A good read with a steaming cup of coffee on a crisp fall day.
