Review: Untraceable by Laura Griffin

"UNTRACEABLE is realistically conceivable with chilling scenarios which get your pulse pounding while also stirring your emotions."

The superb first book in the Tracers series will leave you wanting more, and fortunately there are two more compelling books to round out this trilogy. Laura Griffin knows exactly how to satisfy your desires in romantic suspense, as her stories fulfill your every craving in this genre.

When Melanie Bess feared for her life and wanted to leave her husband, Alexandra Lovell made it come to pass. Since her husband belonged to the Austin, Texas police department, the physically abused woman went to the private investigator instead. Alex is a successful P.I., but she does aid those who authorities cannot help by using her expert computer ability to provide false information in keeping her clients hid. Unfortunately, Melanie did not listen to the advice given to her, and Alex believes the woman may have been discovered by her husband and is now truly missing, possibly even dead. Knowing she cannot go to the local police, the enterprising P.I. manages to get help from a group of forensic scientists called Tracers. Alex also informs Nathan Deveraux, an Austin homicide detective, of her belief, as she has worked with him before and thinks he can be trusted.

After Nathan hears what Alex believes might have occurred to her client, he sympathizes with her but feels he cannot really offer much assistance when there is no concrete evidence pointing to the woman being harmed. When the feisty P.I. insists something is wrong and seems determined to keep investigating on her own, Nathan reluctantly agrees to help although he does not actually think the other cop is capable of murder. After different facts are discovered by both Nathan and Alex, they come to realize something just might be going on, especially when circumstances becomes threateningly dangerous.

Suspenseful romantic adventures are brilliantly compiled by Laura Griffin, and UNTRACEABLE is a noteworthy example. This ingenious author entwines several original situations to create a story where each set of circumstances frequently lets your own imagination soar to new heights. There is a mystery right from the start of UNTRACEABLE, and even though clues and answers are uncovered, plenty of questions remain to keep your interest set on high until the stunning finale concludes after several unforeseen turns. Ms. Griffin is a master of images, and her skillfully crafted words draw the reader into every vividly described scene. There is definitely an abundance of suspenseful apprehension during any action-packed confrontation, and one in particular intensely affected me. Nathan and Alex were met in a previous book written by Ms. Griffin, and I was delighted to see these two spirited individuals be given their own story. Their careers and different views often cause some stress between them, while their mutual attraction results in a tension of a much more personal nature. The developing romance between these two is beautifully told with much sincerity and loads of passion. I liked their genuine honesty with each other, and though they might not always speak of every inner feeling, they showed these hidden sentiments through heartfelt reactions. This story certainly portrays true-to-life problems plus real procedures by specialized professionals. Whether the evidence is being gathered by a homicide detective or analyzed by one of the forensic scientific tracers, the procedures come across as convincing, proving Ms. Griffin spent much time on research. Also, the measures taken by Alex to help someone disappear are believably carried out with much thought. UNTRACEABLE has an intricately suspenseful plot packed with intriguing mysteries which surround numerous appealingly dynamic characters.
