Review: Knight of Pleasure by Margaret Mallory
Lady Isobel Hume has spent her life as a pawn, first with her father and now with the King. She has agreed to go to France to become the bride of a French Nobelman to complete a political alliance. While there, she meets Sir Stephen Carleton who is in France to fight for King Henry. The women pay him a great deal of attention but once he meets Isobel he realizes that she is the only one he wants, but both are subject to the King’s political aims and their own feelings may mean nothing when compared to loyalty to King and country.
Knight of Pleasure is a beautifully written tale, allowing us a night or two of pleasure engrossed in the story of Isobel and Stephen. Isobel was a beautiful desirable woman who thought she wanted nothing more than to serve her king. Love with her husband did not appear possible. Stephen lived his life filled with women but none of them satisfying. It is only together that the two may reach their dreams. Margaret Mallory has created two realistic characters in Isobel and Stephen and they quickly grow to be our friends. Their romance is extremely satisfying for us to experience while the historical background makes the tale so much richer. A fantastic job for Margaret Mallory.
