Review: Defeat the Darkness by Alexis Morgan

"DEFEAT THE DARKNESS plays on your every emotion, as humor is cleverly sprinkled throughout this magically suspenseful and frequently passionate tale."

The ongoing battle between honorable supernatural warriors and evil beings from another realm carries on in the sixth book of the Paladins series with a spellbinding installment packed with danger and unexpected desire. Alexis Morgan gives her likable hero a quest which will test not only his physical strength but make an unanticipated future perhaps achievable depending on his course of action.

As a Paladin warrior, Hunter Fitzsimon is used to fighting Others in our world. Unfortunately, one battle was too much for his battered body to totally overcome, and he can no longer serve in the same capacity as he has done for years. Although Hunter resents having to leave the area where he has been defending a certain barrier, he does get the opportunity to do something with his life once again when he is sent on a case outside Seattle where Kalith have been crossing over from their realm. After arriving in Justice Point, he must find someplace to reside in this small community in order to be near the barrier where activity is believed to be taking place. Hunter feels an available garage apartment is perfect and offers to lease the place.

When Tate Justice decided to rent the rooms above her garage to bring in supplemental income, the tea shop owner never thought a man like Hunter would be her tenant. The powerfully built man with a decided limp seems to be angry all the time, especially with her, but she still finds him intriguing and hopes to learn more about the fascinating man. As Hunter begins his investigation of the area, Tate keeps trying to discover more about her mysterious renter and this leads to them experiencing a surprising passionate encounter. Now the dedicated Paladin finds his thoughts torn between obligations and hopeful dreams.

The enthralling Paladins series just proves Alexis Morgan is an author who will be around for an exceedingly long time. With its originally constructed paranormal world set amongst humanity, there are frightening scenarios constantly arising to make you wonder about the possibilities of just who lives with us. Though some of the situations may seem too incredible to actually take place, Ms. Morgan writes the scenes so smoothly you cannot help but let some questions enter your mind when these thought-provoking incidents crop up. If you are like me, you have the feeling some things are kept from us and would it not be something if the events which take place during the clever telling of this story were truly occurring somewhere on earth. Hunter is a notable hero, as he is not your typical warrior since physical injuries sometimes limit his abilities, yet I have to admire him for never giving up when faced with a set of circumstances where he must perform successfully or failure will have dire consequences. And Tate is not an ordinary heroine either, as she may not have the physical abilities of a Paladin, but she uses resourceful intellect to be helpful when needed. The romance surrounding these two is certainly complex, as duty repeatedly calls to Hunter while his inner wishes sorely tempt him to follow his heart instead. When desire to be with Tate is too much for this courageous warrior to ignore, the moment is explosively heated with genuine feelings fueling their passions. There are numerous Paladins making an appearance during the story, plus several other interesting beings, and each one is depicted with distinctive personalities and converses with engrossing dialogue. Our world does not yet seem as though it is completely safe when the story ends, so I am looking forward to the next riveting book featuring the Paladins and the women who come to love them. DEFEAT THE DARKNESS has gripping danger, unfolding mysteries and a heartfelt romance to keep the reader totally enthralled during every imaginative scene.

I have immensely enjoyed each of the Paladin books that I have read and while have only read excerpts from the Talion series I am sure that they will be just as good. I must however let you know that while I know that it takes time and love to have these wonderful pieces of fictional literature come to life it really is hard not to get aggravated by the waits that we have to endure as readers to find out the next chapter in our heroes and heroines lives. Is it just as hard for you as the writer to wait for the story to unfold for you?

The story of Hunter and Tate is well put together and I have laughed and groaned and sighed as much with it as with all of the other stories in this series
