Review: Proof of Life by Misty Evans
Bridget Kent has come to Washington D.C. from Great Britain under the appearance of consulting for the Department of Homeland Security, but really she is trying to figure out what her sister is up to.
CIA Deputy Director Michael Stone is still haunted by a situation a few months back where he was taken hostage in his own home. But when he hears his niece, the daughter of the Republican presidential candidate, has been kidnapped, he runs right over to his sister’s house where he meets Bridget giving comfort to his sister.
Bridget, unfortunately, is all to familiar with this kidnapper and in the beginning raises Michael’s suspicions because she is where she shouldn’t be and meeting up with people of interest. But when Bridget proves she is one of the good guys to his satisfaction he puts it all on the line for her.
Can Bridget help Michael patch up the whole the terrorists put, not only in his wall, but in his psyche? Can Michael help Bridget put her family shame to rest and love her anyway?
Proof of Life, book 3 of the Super Agent series, was an intense ride that took me on some new spins and twists. I find it amazing that authors can come up with new ways for a familiar plot to play out. I felt that with this effort Ms. Evans, with the way she wove the subplots and family dynamics into the story really delivered on this. The subplots enrich the overall journey and we all know how hard it can be to do what is necessary when our family members are making poor choices.
I would recommend that the reader at least read book 1 of the series Operation Sheba, as it has important background information about Michael Stone and hostage issues he is dealing with in this story.
Enjoy
