Review: Phantom in the Night (BAD: Bureau of American Defense) by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love

"Both Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love have a gift for letting the reader experience the identical emotions of their characters, and this ability shines in PHANTOM IN THE NIGHT."

The BAD (Bureau of American Defense) series is back, and each gripping moment packs an emotional punch. From the first page, the action is immediate and these perilous scenarios relentlessly continue all through the book. When Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love entwine heartfelt feelings into the circumstances, the scene is poignant plus enthralling. Run and get your copy when it arrives in stores on June 10, 2008.

While on a secret Special Forces mission, Sergeant Nathan Drake learns his family desperately needs him. His mother is exceedingly sick and Jamie, his brother, is thought to be associated with an illegal drug running organization and may end up being sent to prison. Nathan has always tried to do what is best for his family and this time is no different. Unfortunately, his decision does not go as totally planned as time passes.

As an agent for the Bureau of American Defense, a covert group which watches over American citizens, Terri Mitchell’s new assignment is to be a consultant with the New Orleans Police Department. Since BAD believes a local organized drug ring may be into much bigger crimes, she is to discover any viable information linking this group to other illegal activity. Shortly after Terri begins her investigation, several individuals associated with the criminal group say they have been confronted by a possible ghost.

Although Terri has never given credence to supernatural beings walking around with humans, she is profoundly intrigued when she comes in contact with someone who is far from the norm. When she tries to determine just who or even what this man actually is and his true purpose, she only uncovers more questions instead of answers. As she digs deeper into her investigation of this phantom man plus the drug ring, facts are revealed to Terri which will make her question many of her personal beliefs. When the threats surrounding her could become lethal, she will be forced to choose whose side she truly believes.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is known for her innovative storylines and uniquely original characters. When her talent is combined with Dianna Love, who is creatively skilled at fueling an engrossing story with realistic feelings, the result is entertaining and noteworthy. The heart-stopping danger never diminishes in PHANTOM IN THE NIGHT, and the ensuing emotions are frequently intense plus sincere. During any situation where the characters have to make a difficult choice, their inner turmoil is powerfully depicted with often painful honesty. These earnest feelings make each of the characters convincingly believable, whether it is an extremely alpha guy shedding a tear or a merciless killer finding joy in his chosen career. When the hero and heroine finally let their emotions control the passionate desires they feel for each other, the moment is exceptionally affecting from their openness and caring. The underlying threat in the story is chillingly portrayed, as this imaginative set of circumstances is brought to life in terrifying detail. Romantic suspense is a favorite genre of mine, and this story more than satisfied me as a reader in every aspect. PHANTOM IN THE NIGHT has unforgettable characters facing edgy situations, where emotions and a sense of duty collide in this story filled with the unexpected.
