Review: Seducing Mr. Darcy by Gwyn Cready

"The cleverly executed plot of SEDUCING MR. DARCY interweaves the past and the present to create a delightfully rewarding story."

Time travel has never been so much fun until portrayed with such imagination in this engaging tale by Gwyn Cready. With an original storyline, modern-day individuals find themselves interacting with characters from a classic novel to create an interesting and compelling book.

Although Flip Allison enjoys the sexual tension of Pride and Prejudice, she would rather read stories with more steamily passionate scenes. The bird-loving ornithologist has not had an actual relationship since her unfaithful ex-husband showed his true colors, and now she only experiences the fictional kind of love. After talking with friends about this ultimate classic love story, Flip finds a notice about massage therapy where one can visualize themselves in a favorite book. Thinking this is the perfect way to unwind in order to finish an assigned paper, she goes for a session where she plans to think about herself and a hunky man from one of her contemporary romance novels.

During the relaxing massage performed by the very colorful Madame K, she finds her last thought is of Mr. Darcy before she takes a nap. While asleep, Flip is stunned to discover she seems to be a interacting with Mr. Darcy in a very different way from how he responded in the novel. Afterwards, she happens to look at a passage in Pride and Prejudice and is horrified to find the context has dramatically changed from the originally published version. It seems her vivid dream was more factual than she knew, and she only has a certain amount of time in which to correct this catastrophe concerning beloved characters. Fortunately, an Austen scholar is in town and Flip seeks the help of Magnus Knightly in righting this disaster. If they can just get through all the misunderstandings and deceptions going on around them in both time periods, maybe this couple will have a chance to see if the sparks between them are truly genuine.

The stories of Gwyn Cready are packed with humor and dynamic characters. Ms. Cready has a special gift for storytelling, as this ingenious author is able to convey her inspired thoughts with creative scenes. This extremely innovative premise is depicted with wittiness plus the occasional thoughtful moment, which makes everything seem more real during the entire story. The numerous amusing expressions, some spoken by the characters and others just in their minds, will have readers frequently smiling and even laughing with delight. When characters from the present are transported to the Regency setting of Pride and Prejudice, the amusement is almost instantaneous and it continues with each new introduction between people from these two periods. Flip and Magnus are especially appealing, as their vibrant personalities come through clearly. Readers will become caught up in the lives of this couple as they try to undo the devastating changes to a classic romantic tale, while finding the time for a little romance of their own. Whether the characters are living in the present or are fictional ones from a book, each of them is given enough of a detailed nature to make them come alive. SEDUCING MR. DARCY is pure entertainment and keeps the laughs coming throughout the story.
