Review: Pleasure Unbound: A Demonica Novel by Larissa Ione
The first book in the Demonica series is fascinatingly innovative with its original storyline and unique characters. Larissa Ione proves her skill as an author with this creatively written story full of fervent encounters and shocking disclosures.
As an incubus demon, Eidolon frequently thinks about having sex with women but tries to control his natural urges by not giving in when a situation presents itself. As the head of Underworld General, a hospital for demons and other select beings, he wants to maintain a level of ethics so patients will trust him. However, all rational thought seems to disappear when a human female arrives in their emergency room. To be attracted to a human is normal, but not when she belongs to a group of demon slayers.
After enduring an unhappy childhood and then having to live in the streets, Tayla Mancuso found a purpose in her life when she joined the Aegis and became a Guardian to protect humans from demons. She knows firsthand how demons can be tricky and untruthful, so when she awakens to find herself being treated by a gorgeous doctor, Tayla feels a potent longing for him until the type of hospital is revealed to her. Even then, intense feelings of desire burn hotly between these two enemies.
There are numerous accusations made by each of them, as past experiences keep their trust levels at a minimum. One of the allegations made by Eidolon is the Guardians are killing demons and then selling their body parts on the black market. Tayla feels certain these claims are not true and they each try to prove just who is correct. Making matters worse, Eidolon has reached a stage in his life where he must choose his life mate or risk changing into a totally altered being. While seeking answers, this couple will uncover unforeseen truths which will make them question their steadfast convictions.
Larissa Ione writes stories with compelling scenes and dynamic characters. The passion in every story is convincingly shown with genuine heat between the characters, yet also fueled by real emotions. In PLEASURE UNBOUND, there is an abundance of conflicting feelings between several characters, and their conversations plus responses seemed completely believable. There is not one moment in this story where I did not feel I was watching actual beings interacting with each other, as Ms. Ione makes every instant effectively realistic. The plot is particularly imaginative with its clever combination of issues, and all incidents add thrilling scenes to the story. Never has the paranormal world been more intriguing, as demons and humans interrelate with repeatedly surprising results. With characters whose personalities are noticeably dissimilar, each of them comes across as a distinct being. Eidolon and Tayla are especially memorable with their passionate natures, and their scenes are steamy yet also emotionally explosive. Theirs is the ultimate love story, as they begin as enemies and slowly come to realize not all their perceived opinions are correct. The scenes where they question their beliefs are truly moving from the sincere anguish they felt as they tried to discover the truth. PLEASURE UNBOUND will leave a lasting impact on the reader, as this unforgettable story will evoke emotions long after the last page is read.

I’ve been wanting to read this for a long while… so I think I’m going to move it to the top of my TBR pile so I can start reading tonight. Maybe then I won’t feel like the only person out there who hasn’t read it.
