Review: Killer Librarian by Mary Lou Kirwin

"Ms. Kirwin weaves literary gems into the story that will keep the reader jumping to keep up. Add a new love interest to mix into the stew and there is something for everyone in this book."

Karen Nash is a librarian in a small town in Minnesota.  The highlight of her life is a trip to London that she is about to take with Dave, the man she loves.  For years Karen read about London and dreamed of visiting many of the sites mentioned in the books.  On the day of departure, however, Dave calls to break up with her and cancel their trip.  Deciding to move on with her life in spite of this set back, Karen decides to go to London anyway.  She is about to board the plane when she learns the real reason Dave called off their trip to London:  Dave is taking someone younger and prettier on Karen’s dream vacation!

Karen, a lover of mystery fiction, occupies herself on her flight to London by thinking of all the ways to kill Dave and get away with it.  Karen checks into a cozy Bed and Breakfast run by another lover of books, the handsome Caldwell Perkins.  They soon become close friends.  On a trip to a local pub with Caldwell, Karen has one pint too many and tells a stranger what Dave did to her.  She confesses that she wants to figure out a way to kill her cheating lover and get away scott free.  The stranger smiles secretly and tells her it will all be taken care of.  The next day Karen, suffering a hangover, barely remembers her conversation and worries that she might have put Dave’s life in danger.  She may hate him, but she really does not want to see him dead.

Fearing that she might have set an assassin on Dave’s trail, Karen attempts to find the stranger to stop him from killing her ex.  No one seems to know who he is, but he appears to have a dangerous reputation.  At the same time, one of the guests at the B & B dies under mysterious circumstances.  Karen suspects that one of the guests at the B & B might be the killer.  She fears that the killer might even be Caldwell.  He had a good reason to hate the dead man.  Can Karen protect Dave and solve the mystery of the death at the B & B?

In the first book of a new series, Mary Lou Kirwin tells a tale of murder and intrigue using generous amounts of humor.  Karen’s vacation is everything she ever wanted in spite of the man who dumped her.  Karen decides to present herself as something other than a librarian, so she tells everyone at the B & B that she is a mystery writer doing research for a new book.  Her deception will come back to haunt her as she tries to save Dave’s life.  The reader will enjoy Karen’s visits to the Mecca of booksellers in England.  Ms. Kirwin weaves literary gems into the story that will keep the reader jumping to keep up.  Add a new love interest to mix into the stew and there is something for everyone in this book.  I look forward to reading the further adventures of the Killer Librarian.
