Review: Knight Awakened by Coreene Callahan
Power hungry warlord Vladimir Barbu is in control of Transylvania, but he needs Afina Lazar to ensure he keeps it. As the high priestess, she must crown him if his position is to be recognized by all. Unable to believe that a mere woman could thwart him, he hires elite assassin Xavian Ramir to bring her in. Xavian is happy to take the job. The money would be enough to get out of this business forever. But when he meets Afina, he is not sure he can turn her over to Vladimir. The two are soon on a journey that will lead them on a adventure through a world filled with surprises, betrayal, and danger.
Coreene Callahan is an amazing writer. She can take you into a time and place and keep you there for however long it takes to finish the book. Magic, love and danger will keep you glued to your seat until you have finished reading Knight Awakened. Xavian has so many layers to him but he can only focus on the bad. He does not feel he could possibly be worthy of Afina. She represents all that is lost to him. Afina though has her own insecurities. She, too does not feel worthy. They embark on a journey together battling forces they converge on them. It is together that they can find their own value.
Knight Awakened is the start of Coreene Callahan’s historical writing. She will capture and not let go until you have read the very last word. We will all be anxiously awaiting the next book from her talented pen.
