An Admiral of the Royal Navy plans to create his own slave trade. When Captain James Hartwell refuses to be involved, the Admiral’s loyal followers attack James and his crew. Fleeing for their lives, Captain Hartwell with everyone loyal to him (including his sister) jump into the sea and swim to an ancient galleon. A fireball from the sky lands in the ocean and covers their escape. Inside the fireball is a female cyborg. Once the Captain and his crew board the galleon, he spots a body in the water. James rescues a woman with silver skin. Her name is Mechatronic. The crash forces the nano-bots from her body to spill into the water after the crash. They will affect James’ crew members in unexpected ways.
Captain Hartwell is now a pirate. He has two crews running the galleon, but he only trusts his men. The other crewmembers do everything in their power to undermine the Captain’s authority. Strange powers begin to manifest in the crewmembers who boarded the galleon with Captain Hartwell. Lady Mechatronic explains that her nano-bots genetically alter and improve everything they touch. Each crewmember, including James’ sister, develops a different type of ability or weapon that comes in handy when the Admiral attacks the galleon.
The Captain notices that the galleon is not immune to the nano-bots. The ship begins to repair itself. Subtle improvements appear throughout the ship. The nano-bots even upgrade the ancient cannon. When he is not keeping his eye on the crew, the Captain finds himself drawn to Lady Mechatronic. He knows he cannot trust her because of the numerous changes her nano-bots are making, but he still finds himself wanting her.
In the second book of this steampunk/pirate series, Arabella Wyatt picks up where her last book left off. James Hartwell is the new Captain of the ancient galleon and he has two different crews at odds with each other. Add the changes taking place because of Lady Mechatronic’s nano-bots and the conflict can only get worse. Ms. Wyatt has the Captain and Lady Mechatronic dancing around each other and fighting their attraction while they try to keep the two crews from killing each other. The author beautifully sets the stage for the next installment of this series. The reader will want to find out what happens next. The galleon’s original crew wants to dispose of the Captain and his loyal followers. Will they be successful?
