Review: Down Home Ever Lovin’ Mule Blues by Jacquie Rogers

"This is the funniest book that I have read in years! Sexy cowboys; hot bullfighters; a multimillionaire CEO; mules, dogs, skunks, bulls .... What's not to love? and assorted animals really run the show. What's not to love?"

Rita Markum takes leave from her job, and returns home to care for her mother who is having knee surgery, and will need someone to be able to keep the house up and care for her while she recuperates for a few weeks. Rita has not been home for a while, and her thoughts turned towards the man that she had had a major crush on as a young woman, their neighbor, Brody Alexander. Rita had never forgotten Brody, and still thought about him frequently even though she is engaged to a man at her agency.

Brody Alexander has never forgotten Rita either. He was aware that as a young woman Rita had been interested in him, but Brody knew that she was too young to make a decision that could affect the rest of her life, so he gently rebuffed her advances, even though it nearly killed him to do so.

Also, in the background, there is an animal, a mule named Socrates, who remembers how Rita and Brody had danced around each other, and this mule just knew that Brody and Rita were made for each other, so he and his animal friends have decided to get the twosome  together because they belonged together..So when Socrates learns that Rita is at home, he takes it upon himself to  mosey over to Rita’s mother’s house, break in, and starts eating her apples causing Rita’s mother to call for Brody to come and get Socrates with the trailer to take him back home. Well, of course Brody sees Rita, and is once again blown away by her beauty, and Rita wonders why her heart is beating so hard, and why is she short of breath when she looks at Brody?

How can true love fail when everyone and their mule, cat, and  skunk know that Brody and Rita belong together, even if Rita is engaged to another man..

Needless to say, this is a fabulous roll on the floor while laughing out loud story. I am so thrilled to discover this book, and the author who wrote it. I adore romantic comedy. Rarely do I locate a story with as much humor, joy, and downright lust spread so thickly on the pages that I am surprised that I could turn the pages. Down Home Ever Lovin’ Mule Blues is a treasure not to be missed. Thank you, Ms. Rogers, for all of the laughter, and joy that you bring to the reader of your fabulous book. Major Kudos to you! Now, when is your next book published? I am ready for more…

Thank you for the kind comments. It is easy to write a review about a book that kept me glued to the pages like Down Home Ever Lovin’ Mule Blues did. Also, I woke my hubby up because I was laughing so much while reading this story in bed one night..grin
