Detective Jane Perry decides to take time off to find a part of her life she never knew existed. Setting out, she stops at a gas station where her car is stolen The thief is none other than Harlan Kipple, a man accused of brutally murdering a prostitute. On the run, he is determined to stay that way and maybe prove his innocence along the way. Determined to recover her car, Jane puts her personal issues aside and tracks down Harlan. Before she finds him though, she meets a witness to the crime; her story does not coincide with the official reports. Finding Harlan, she soon realizes that her world is tipped again. Harlan appears to be innocent and on the run from not only the police but also a despicable group that will stop at nothing to remove Harlan from this world. Seventeen months ago, Harlan received a heart transplant. Since then his life has changed. He is no longer sure who is running his life – him or his new heart. For Jane, the more she sees, the more she realizes there is so much more to life than meets the eye.
Knowing was a incredible tale that takes us deep into many topics, including an excellent view into the mind of a psychopath and what the key is to control – the heart or the mind. Jane is her usual irascible self and her comments make the reading lively and fast paced. Harlan, who claims to not be the brightest, leaves us with quite a few tidbits that we can use in our own life. On the run with Harlan, Jane learns about life, living and loving. And so do we.
