Review: KICKING ASHE by Pauline Baird Jones

Ashe, a time tracker in the employ of the Time Service, set off a major time wave and rode it across the time stream ending up on an unknown planet bombarded by time debris.  The planet is temporarily inhabited by swash buckling pirate types that are looking for their lost space ship.  The leader’s brother is on that ship.  Ashe and her nanite Lurch are at a grave disadvantage since they need to connect to technology in order to figure out where and when and why they are at this place.  Ashe is distracted not only by the seemingly lack of technology but also by the hot hunky leader that she knows from another time and place.

Vidor Shan, leader of the Keltinar group, questions why he was sent to this planet when he should be on his ship searching for his brother.  And now a gorgeous alien appears and is causing confusion among his men as well as himself.  He is her protector but wants to be so much more.  Ashe seems to know about the meteorites that are falling with increased frequency, does she also know about the enemy Zelk that are heading their way?  Ashe tells Shan about a possible betrayal by someone he trusts, what does that portend since he is beginning to trust her?

Time tsunamis, nanites, lizard-like automatons, betrayals and kisses add spark to this  highly entertaining sci/fi tale.  KICKING ASHE by award winning author Pauline Baird Jones is the final awesome book in the Project Enterprise series.  Amusing characters Ashe and Shan, from earlier books, are further developed and given their own stories.  Ashe is colorfully quirky as she holds on-gong conversations in her head with her nanite Lurch.  Shan is honorable, handsome and quick to adjust when the need arises.  Fast paced suspense with just a dash of romance, KICKING ASHE is the perfect ending to a favorite sci/fi series.
