Review: Lovers’ Vows by Joan Smith

St. Alton’s Abbey might be Lord Dewar’s ancestral estate, but he’d much rather spend his time in London, patronizing the theatres of the capital and indulging in his passion for drama, music and painting, then in visiting the dusty and neglected estates that are like a millstone around his neck. Lord Dewar adores the cultural stimulation he gets from London and tries his hardest to avoid visiting St. Alton’s Abbey, for how can he possibly be stimulated at St. Alton’s when there are no theatres nearby to feed his soul and fuel his cultural passion?

Holly McCormack is positively elated that Lord Dewar stays away from the estates. She certainly does not need him poking his nose around her business and she certainly does not want him interfering in affairs which do not concern him in the slightest! Holly thinks that His Lordship should be absolutely ashamed for letting his estate go to rack and ruin and for neglecting his duties as Lord of the Manor.

Holly has plenty of things to occupy her mind. She’s a poor relation who has been forced to live with her better-off relatives and she certainly has no desire or any inclination to think about Lord Dewar.

However, when Lord Dewar makes a rare appearance at St. Alton’s Abbey, Holly soon changes her mind….

Has she been too hasty in condemning this man? Maybe, Lord Dewar isn’t the villain which she had thought him to be…

Lovers’ Vows is another classic by this talented storyteller who never fails to pen enchanting and adorable novels peopled with smart heroines, gorgeous heroes, witty dialogue and plenty of rib-tickling funny moments which have been keeping readers enthralled for decades. A new Joan Smith is always a major cause of celebration and readers looking for a spellbinding historical romance will never regret picking up one of her fantastic books!
