Set in Roman Britain, Deep Magic opens with Gwendolyn, a young Druid woman who is aware that her grandfather Cyric is nearing the end of his life and that she must soon step into his role. A role which she has been destined to fulfill since birth: to be Avalon’s Guardian of the Mists. The Druids have their lives secluded on Avalon; protected by powerful mists which prevents the Romans from entering their world and desecrating their land.
Cyric has forbidden the Druids from practicing deep magic, for he has always insisted that they follow the teachings of the Light. But Gwen fears that that may not be enough, for a rogue Roman soldier has the power to lift the protective mists covering their land, and is thus threatening Gwen’s people, their land and their life.
Gwen knows that she must do something. She cannot allow the Roman leader Strabo to use his dark magic and destroy all that she holds dear. So, she decides to embrace the deep magic and try to find other ways of protecting her people, rather than simple follow her grandfather’s placid resolves. So, she travels to Rome, and asks for help from family friend and master blacksmith, the Roman Marcus Aquila.
Gwen asks Marcus to help her by creating a magical sword that contains enough power that vanquish the enemy and protect her land. Marcus complies with her request, as, having been in love with her for over a year, he hasn’t managed to get Gwen out of his mind.
As the two are thrown in close proximity together, they realize that their attraction has grown into a wild passion which cannot be denied. But will their love be able to triumph over the dark forces that are threatening their love?
