Interview with Lucy Monroe
1. Tell us about your next release, Deal With This, will you?
It’s the second in my The Goddard Project series from Brava. Alan finally gets the girl…or rather woman. And Jillian is that, all woman and a red-hot firecracker besides. I love the entire cast of characters in this story and had a wonderful time writing about them. I’d been wanting to do Jillian’s story since finishing The Real Deal, but until I realized Alan was *her* man, couldn’t bring the story together in my head.
2. Where did you get the inspiration for Alan and Jillian?
I first wrote about Alan in “Moon Magnetism” – my novella in Star Quality. I knew he was an FBI agent who was so much more than he appeared to be. He came visiting again in Satisfaction Guaranteed and it was then that I knew it was time to write his story.
As for Jillian? She was this flamboyant red head that showed up at Amanda’s door in beginning of The Real Deal. I wasn’t expecting her, but Amanda was…they were best friends. I have no idea where she came from, but she shares some characteristics with my baby sister. J
3. How does the writing process unfold for you?
Unfold is such a good term, because that’s exactly what it does. It’s like the book opens one fold at a time until I have something so big it has to get written down or I’ll go nuts trying to keep it in my head.
4. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A missionary. Then an evangelist. Then a romance writer. Then a senator. Then a management consultant. Then a missionary again. Guess what I ended up?
5. Could you describe for us your idea of the perfect hero?
My husband…the alpha at the end of the book. Strong. Integrous. Sexy. Dependable. Sensitive (sometimes). A great cook. Good father when the time comes. Supportive. Adventurous. Dedicated. Loyal. Stubborn. Passionate. Constantly learning. Just plain yummy.
6. Why do you think Erotic Romance is so popular today?
Sex is a beautiful, natural part of a healthy and strong committed relationship. Women and men are finally giving themselves permission to read about that aspect without feeling the need to minimize it to simple physical sensation – but allowing the emotional element its rightful place in that relationship. It’s a matter of romance once again empowering women to be all that they can – not what society says is acceptable, but what they want to be. And readers like me love that…want to read more of it.
7. Is Happily Ever After a requirement in your books?
Absolutely. A believable HEA that will not get overturned is something I cannot do without.
8. If you had a chance to either go to the past or the future, which would you choose? Any particular year?
The past…I’d like a chance to meet Jesus face to face before I go to Heaven. J
9. Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
Love my hot tub. Shopping…my husband is one of the few men I know who enjoys this too – so it’s something we do together and with the kids as well. I have a huge and close-knit family, so most of my free time gets spent with them – doing just about anything. And I love to read.
10. A blanket under the stars or a 4-Star hotel?
The hotel absolutely. I don’t like to be cold and every time dh and I have tried making love outside, we’ve been caught. LOL
11. Favorite room in your house?
My great room because I spend time with my family in it. My office because that’s where I write. My bedroom because it’s both a refuge and a place of privacy for dh and I.
12. How would your friends describe you?
Bubbly. High energy. Busy. Caring. A nut.
13. Do you have any pet peeves?
Mean people. Snark that’s supposed to be funny but is just hurtful. When the kids forget to come say hi when they get home from school – even the kids’ friends and cousins.
14. Favorite purse or pair of shoes?
Orange. Both.
15. Do you have a favorite store in the mall?
My favorite store that isn’t usually in a mall is Kohls and I love my Target.
16. Do you have a favorite movie that you could watch over and over again?
The Quiet Man. French Kiss. Around the World in 80 Days.
17. What else would you like to share with us?
Just a huge thank you to readers for spending time with me through my books and huge cyber hugs to the ones who take time to let me know about it. You are all the reason I write the stories in my head into the computer and I love you for it!
