REVIEW: APPLE OF MY EYE BY ELIZABETH BOTTS

When Carissa Lawrence’s grandmother says she is going to sell the family apple orchard, Carissa goes to the Callahan Ranch to talk to the buyer. At the ranch, she runs into the last person she expected to see, the man with whom she spent one passionate night and got pregnant. They were across the country when they met and never saw each other again. Little did they know that they lived so close to each other all along.
Caleb Callahan had just escaped a bad relationship when he met Carissa. He thought they shared something extremely special during their brief time together, but then he found out his former girlfriend was pregnant. Carissa was devastated that Caleb never called her after their magical night together.
Now Caleb and Carissa have the chance to start over again as a family with their two sons. Will they be able to put the past behind them and trust each other again? Will their new relationship be able to survive when they are faced with challenges?

Carissa is desperate to have her grandmother respect her as an adult and a valued member of the family. She longs to have a true family and place to belong. Although she is uncertain at first, she wants to make the new relationship work with Caleb. Caleb is ecstatic to discover that he has another son but also upset that he lost two years of his son’s life. Caleb fears that Carissa will leave with their son, which makes Caleb hesitant to embrace his feelings. True to life, there were many times when the couple walked away from a conversation that needed to take place in order for each person to understand the other’s perspective. However, it was fun to watch the boys get to know each other as Carissa and Caleb battle with recognizing their love for each other. Elizabeth Botts delivers a great story about trusting your heart and forgiving the past.
